all depends on you're hair type. and the environment you're in. if the air's humid, then it could be less than the day...

It should stay straight for like 4 to 5 days if you don't wash it at all or wet it.
If it gets damp, or you walk out in wet rainy/ snowy weather with no protection, it will go curly/ wavy again!!

Your hair will stay straight until you wash it. Tho w/the oils your scalp produces it may become stringy or a little wavy but not curly until you wash it. But I'd say not washing it for 2 days is ok anything longer is just gross ... then again back in the day some women use to go and get their hair "wash/set" each week for the week... I'm 34 and I know that my hair still gets oily and nasty even if it is one or two days...

Just a little FYI, the special edition CHI's, such as the one your friend has, don't work as well at the normal edition. I used to work in a beauty supply store that sold Chi Irons, and I've heard this complaint from alot of customers. Provided it's for a good cause, it still probably won't give you the same effect as the normal CHI.
A little more info, if you're in the market for a straightener, choose the Paul Mitchell smoothing iron. Your hair stays pin straight until you wash it, and it also makes your hair feel smooth, and silky. Alot of people say they prefer this iron over the CHIs.
Anyways, to answer your question lol, your hair will stay straight until you wash it, provided you don't live in drastic humidity, and you don't go out in the rain without your head covered. If you decide to go a few days without washing your hair, you may need to touch your hair up a bit again with the straightener, since you'll be sleeping on it and it make get a little messed up.
